Trails

Come ride or hike our Trails...

Under our lease from the MMWD, we maintain the Ethel Moore and Canyon trailheads which provide public access to 90 miles of trails on MMWD lands
and 22,000 acres of natural open space that include Mount Tamalpais, Phoenix Lake, Lake Lagunitas, Bon Tempe Lake, Alpine Lake, and Kent Lake. If you
know the trail system in Marin County, you can hike or ride from Marin Stables
to practically any point in the GNRA, Marin County Open Space, and MMWD lands—from the Golden Gate Bridge to Point Reyes.

Trail Use Rules

Use of the trails and unpaved roads on MMWD lands is governed by rules and regulations set by MMWD. The single track trails are open to use by hikers, runners, and, unless otherwise marked, horses. Bicyclists also share the fire roads with hikers, runners and equestrians. Dogs are permitted on the trails but must be kept on a leash on all MMWD trails and fire roads. Additional information is available from MMWD at (415)-945-1181 or at the MMWD website: MMWD Guidelines

Volunteers work to remove broom in keeping with the mission to preserve and restore.

Fishing in the Lakes

MMWD offers fishing at seven lakes. Bass, bluegill, crappie and catfish can be caught in all of the lakes except Lagunitas. State fishing licenses are required for all fishing on our watershed lands. Lake Lagunitas is managed under a special program for trout and has different fishing regulations from the rest of the reservoirs. Lagunitas Creek between Alpine and Kent Lake is open for fishing from the last Saturday in April through November 15. All other streams on MMWD lands are closed to all fishing all year. For a recorded message with the most current fishing information, please call (415) 945-1194. Additional information can also be found on the MMWD website by clicking here: MMWD Fishing
