Marin Humane Society

Marin Stables & Trails and Marin Humane Society dog training instructor Anni Black are pleased to present "Woofs & Whinnies" workshops for people who want to prepare their dogs for safe encounters with horses on open space trails. These two-hour workshops are held at Marin Stables about once a month during the spring, summer, and fall. They provide a fun and safe environment for students and their dogs to learn about close encounters of the canine and equine kind.

Workshop participants will enjoy a walk together on the beautiful and peaceful Canyon Trail and an educational presentation by horse trainer and Marin Stables manager Jim McDermott. The exercises begin with one horse being led in a wide circle around the group, gradually getting closer and closer to the dogs. There are several volunteers on hand to help those whose dogs get over-stimulated by a horse's presence. Handlers get a lot of practice focusing their dogs on them as they go through basic training exercises with a horse close by. The workshops end with simulated trail encounters with two or more horses. Yummy snacks are also provided.
